BADBADNOTGOOD

Variety Playhouse - 1099 Euclid Ave. N.E. Atlanta, GA 30307 $21-$26. 7:30 p.m.

In 2011, a series of Odd Future covers performed by jazz-fusion outfit BADBADNOTGOOD got a chilly reception from the professors at Humber College in Toronto. And yet, their sound caught Tyler, the Creator’s attention, and like a hip-hop fairy godmother, he shared their YouTube clips and brought them into the limelight. With jazz as the bedrock of the quartet’s compositions, combined with electronic elements and a strong rhythm section, the group has become a go-to backing band for some of the biggest names in hip-hop (see 2015’s Ghostface Killah collaboration, Sour Soul). With the group’s 2016 album, IV, BBNG came into their own sound, and the results are ... pretty damn good.
