Summer is winding down and temperatures are dropping. Soon, we’ll have to say farewell to our swimsuits and hello to our sweaters. But before we officially tuck our pool floats deep into the attic, celebrity chef Art Smith is giving A-town one last summer blowout. The second annual Art’s Big Southern Barbecue will feature a big fat sunset buffet of barbecue favorites including baby back ribs, tomahawk steaks, brisket, Nashville hot soft shell crab, and other goodies in the Windsor Garden adjacent to his restaurant, Southern Art and Bourbon Bar. Beers will be provided by SweetWater Brewing Company and cocktails will come from Bourbon Bar. There will also be a chef meet-and-greet with Smith, lawn games and live entertainment.

Cornered” by EyeSplice

WonderRoot - 982 Memorial Drive S.E. Atlanta, GA 30316 6 p.m.

Cornered examines the often biased expectations placed upon cis-gender boys and girls in our society, and asks the question: “What happens when a man is nurturing and a woman is aggressive?” For some, this takes on the role of embracing female expressions of aggression, and demonstrating this as a human reaction towards a frustrating and discriminatory set social standards for women and girls. For others, it’s deconstructing archetypes stitch by stitch. Still others utilize humor to challenge traditionally feminine pastimes. For the members of EyeSplice, the work made as artists and as women serve as a powerful vehicle for making visible the diversity, and humanity of women and their experiences.

ONE Musicfest Kickoff Party feat. NoName, Thundercat, J.I.D.

The Tabernacle - 152 Luckie St. N.W. Atlanta, GA 30303 $39-$85. 8 p.m.

Raised in the same fertile Chicago scene as Chance the Rapper and Mick Jenkins, Fatimah Warner, aka Noname, cuts through hip-hop tropes with warmth and subtlety. The young rapper received waves of critical acclaim last year after releasing her debut mixtape, Telefone. Her lyrical style weaves together introspective spoken word verses with infectious choruses that refuse to treat vulnerability and accessibility as contradictions. Genre-defying bass player Thundercat made his name as a Flying Lotus collaborator before releasing a string of acclaimed solo records, and winning a Grammy for his work on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly. As a songwriter, he stitches together elements of video game soundtracks, jazz fusion, and blue-eyed soul into a cohesive sound.’‘
