Taqueria del Sol June 19, 2017, 5:30 p.m. to June 25, 2017, 10 p.m. Hogs Taco Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q and all Taqueria del Sol locations are serving a new hogs taco all week, the sale of which will benefit Hogs for the Cause, which raises money for families with children fighting pediatric brain cancer. Atlanta Botanical Garden June 24-25, 2017 Refugee Recipe Celebration In celebration of World Refugee Day, the Atlanta Botanical Garden will host a very special cultural exchange demonstration with Clarkston nonprofit Friends of Refugees. Guest chefs from Sudan, Burma, Nepal and Syria will cook up recipes from their home countries at the Edible Garden Outdoor Kitchen. Four dishes will be prepared on Saturday and Sunday: Nepali vegetarian momo, Sudanese asida bread, Syrian hummus and tabbouleh and Burmese moh ghee dtoh and chin baung, or roselle. In addition to food, the Garden’s main lawn will host a variety of cultural activities including weaving crafts, accordion music, children’s planting and a Takraw tournament: a game similar to volleyball that is played with your feet! King and Duke June 24, 2017, 1-5 p.m. King + Duke Patio Party Guest chefs from across Atlanta will grill burgers to benefit local nonprofit the Giving Kitchen. SweetWater Brewery June 24, 2017, 7-10 p.m. Verde! Honoring Marian Liou Deck yourself out in seersucker and head to the Woodlands, SweetWater Brewing Company’s brand-new event space, for a summer soiree hosted by Generation Green of the Georgia Conservancy. With sour and barrel-aged beers from SweetWater, cocktails from ASW Distillery, smoked pulled pork from Grassroots Farms, a tasting tour of Buford Highway, live music and games galore, the event will honor Longleaf Award honoree Marian Liou. The founder of “We Love BuHi” and Creative Loafing Best of Atlanta winner will be recognized for her work as an emerging environmental leader. The Ritz-Carlton Buckhead June 25, 2017, 4 p.m. Cochon555 This Atlanta-born event started in 2008 and has since spread across the country. Five chefs receive five heritage breed pigs and compete in a “nose-to-tail” contest to find out who can cook up the best meat. The winner will be named the “Prince or Princess of Pork,” and five winemakers will also be on hand to compete for the best pig/wine match. Cochon555 works to educate food industry folks and diners about the importance of supporting family farming and sourcing products responsibly. Details
