Quick Bites: Appa’s debuts on BuHi, Arepa Mia relocates, Moody Tongue Brewery comes to the A and more

Atlanta’s OG poke pop-up Appa’s is opening their first brick and mortar restaurant on Buford Highway. Since kicking off the city’s poke obsession with their raw fish bowls and sushirritos at Irwin Street Market last summer, owners Justin and Judy Oh have been searching for more permanent digs. The couple will host their grand opening on July 1st at 5865 Buford Hwy N.E.



Beloved Venezuelan spot Arepa Mia is relocating from its Decatur location (317 E. College Ave.) to the Tudor Village of Avondale Estates (10 N. Clarendon). The Decatur location will remain in service until June 30th.



Chicago-based beer-makers Moody Tongue Brewery made their Atlanta debut at Holeman and Finch this week. Brewmaster Jared Rouben calls his approach “culinary brewing” which uses “a chef’s mindset to highlight flavors and aromatics in balanced beers.?۝ The beers will soon be available at a number of other Atlanta restaurants and retailers including Hop City, the Porter, Argosy, Gunshow, Bacchanalia and others.

Taco Tuesday just got better in Chamblee. Taqueria del Sol’s new location in Peachtree Station (5001 Peachtree Blvd.) opened for lunch on June 14 and dinner service begins the 17th. The restaurant from Mike Klank and chef Eddie Hernandez is closed Sunday.

In partnership with Concentrics Restaurants, Molly B’s is slated to open August 26th at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The restaurant’s name pays homage to owner Arthur Blank’ mother, Molly Blank. Chef Michael Bertozzi (TWO Urban Licks) will offer up a menu with a “modern spin on a Southern inspired chophouse,” according to a press release.

Hugh Acheson’s Savannah restaurant the Florence is closing after service on Sunday, June 25. Acheson posted a statement about the closure on social media, “Sometimes you build something pretty with a lot of awesome artisans, you cook good food with skill and precision, you serve it with heart, professionalism and a smile, and at the end of the day it is still a financial puzzle that just doesn’t work.”

Jai Ho (560 Dutch Valley Rd. NE) in Morningside has added a new lunch menu. Available 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, lunch includes soups, salads, naan wraps, kati rolls and Jai Ho bowls.

Inman Quarter cocktail bar AMER debuted their new Sour Hour menus this month. Tuesdays through Fridays from 5 to 7 p.m. cocktail classics are $6 with bites from the kitchen to pair with them.

Tickets for the 16th annual Taste of Atlanta are on sale now at the festival’s website. For a short time there is early bird pricing and the first 300 purchasers of the Grand Tasting Experience will receive gift bags. The food festival runs October 20-22 in a new location at Historic Fourth Ward Park.
