Meghan Dowlen, otherwise known as Jade Poppyfield, is an electronic music artist from Macon, Georgia. Her out-of-the-box moniker comes from a name given to a Halloween costume she put together a few years back, and has stuck with her ever since. With her popularity on the rise, Dowlen has recently started playing bass with Atlanta cabaret-punk darlings, Material Girls. Creative Loafing has covered her before, but we got in touch again to ask about her favorite places to listen to music in Georgia.

5. Eyedrum, Downtown Atlanta: “I love performing shows and seeing shows here. I love being in this place in general because it’s cozy, dreamy and invigorating. Eyedrum hosts the pre-INC (International Noise Conference) shows, Film Love nights, and many other great events each year.”

4. Fresh Produce Records, Macon, GA: “While Macon is not as busy as it once was with arts and culture, this venue/record store offers a taste of the DIY downtown arts scene. The history of Macon will always have a warm place in my heart because it has come such a long way. If you’re ever in Macon for any reason, stop in and check it out.”

3. 529, East Atlanta Village: “This place usually books shows that have great lineups that tend to have a lot of variety. I like that they don’t get caught up in one genre or target one crowd solely. Instead, they showcase things across the board.”

2. The Earl, East Atlanta Village: “I simply love the sound of this venue. Whether I’m performing or watching another act, I always know the mixing is in good hands. They also take booking seriously. They really cater to their local scene and I can appreciate that about them. I am always able to truly be immersed in whatever I’m seeing.”

1. Mammal Gallery, Downtown Atlanta: “The gallery was one of the first venues I checked out when I moved to Atlanta, and I fell in love with it immediately, with the pink lodge vibe. They’re doing great things, and they know how to change it up with lineups. They always keep it interesting which is important these days, because you don’t want to be oversaturated. There is also a gallery upstairs, which is really cool to check out if it’s open.”
