The Atlanta-based email marketing company MailChimp has been dubbed Inc. Magazine’s company of the year.

Mailchimp, helmed by 43-year-old Ben Chestnut and headquartered at Ponce City Market, took nearly two decades to really find its groove. It blossomed out of a failed e-greeting company, which then was fielding tons of requests for a good email marketing platform. That frequent ask prompted a side project that grew into the $525 million company hailed by Inc. and others today.
