Hours after Texas massacre, Real Housewives of Atlanta banter floods Twitter
Some social media users enraged at public’s ability to ‘entertain the pain away’
Twitter/@ShaunKingMere hours after a mass shooting rattled a small Texas town, Twitter users shifted their focus to mindless reality television. #RHOA (Real Housewives of Atlanta) quickly overshadowed coverage of the heinous crime, and some web surfers were up in arms.
Shaun King, a columnist for The Intercept, voiced his disappointment with the social media site’s short attention span. “Last month 1 man w/ an arsenal of guns shot over 500 people. It’s already old news politically,” he said in a tweet.
Added King around 6:30 p.m.: “Real Housewives of Atlanta is already the #1 trending topic in the country. We have a remarkable capacity to entertain our pain away. #RHOA.”
