Chuck Reece, the journalist who founded the renowned magazine The Bitter Southerner, has started a new online publication called Salvation South. Its aim, Reece says, is to “create a place on the web and a community of people where civil conversation can happen.” Reece and his wife Stacy also plan to start a podcast. “We want no less than to show the world a group of Southerners who are dedicated to having the difficult conversations that can ultimately bring down our divisions,” he says on the site, adding that donations to help pay writers “what they deserve” are more than welcome. salvationsouth.com
