Actor’s Express, Atlanta’s “gutsiest and most vital” theater company, is launching a program that will commission a local playwright to write a new full-length play for each of the next five years. The goal is to then provide development resources to the writer such as workshops, actors, and readings. In a press release, Development Director Natalie Holly said the focus will be on those of the “global majority,” women, LGBTQIA+ writers, and early to mid-career dramatists. The first writer to receive a full-length commission is Quinn Xavier Hernandez. “This process is a huge step for me,” he says. actors-express.com
